Management Team

Samuel S. Blackman
Chairman and CEO

Samuel brings extensive management experience and video processing expertise to the ETI team. Prior to co-founding ETI in 2006, Samuel specified and architected next-generation products as an IC Design Manager for Pixelworks. He spent time in China organizing the company's Shanghai design center, and was responsible for a wide variety of functional blocks on six ImageProcessor ICs. Prior to joining Pixelworks in 2000, Samuel held engineering positions at Silicon Graphics and Intel Corporation. Mr. Blackman holds an M.B.A from the University of Oregon, an M.S.E.E. from the University of California at Berkeley and a B.S.E.E. from Brown University in Providence, RI. He was the Oregon League of Conservation Voters Volunteer of the Year in 2005, and a Regional Qualifier for the non-partisan White House Fellows Program in 2006. Before Elemental and his new baby Abraham, Mr. Blackman used to enjoy playing Ultimate Frisbee and eating ice cream. Of his goals for the company, he states "We want to restore the lustre to the video cluster here in Portland."

Jesse J. Rosenzweig
CTO

Jesse brings a deep background in video systems and software to ETI. He joined Pixelworks as a Software Applications Engineer in 1999 and played a critical role in bringing numerous complex customer designs into production. He was a core architect for the clean-slate development of Pixelworks' next-generation System Development Kit (SDK), the real-time operating system that powers all Pixelworks ImageProcessor ICs. Jesse also managed and contributed to several other successful products at Pixelworks, including the digital television SDK that drives all Pixelworks-based digital televisions today. Previous to Pixelworks, Jesse held software engineering positions at Qualcomm and Ericsson. Mr. Rosenzweig holds a B.S.E.E. in Computer Science from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Mr Rosenzweig enjoys spending his free time exploring rivers and mountains and is at home in the elements. “Say hasta luego to serial processing, it’s all about parallelism now!”

Brian G. Lewis
Chief Architect

Brian provides ETI with an abundance of software and project management know-how. He has 13 years of experience with complex real-time software development, spanning the entire development cycle from requirements capture through deployment and support. Areas of particular expertise are image processing, video compression and real-time control systems. Brian's previous roles include Director of Software Engineering at Pixelworks, where he led development of a next-generation Software Development Kit (SDK) for ImageProcessor ICs. Before this Brian worked as an engineer and team leader at Rockwell Collins developing navigation, guidance and sensor control software for military transport aircraft. Mr. Lewis earned a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona. Mr. Lewis is obsessed with video compression. Really; we're not kidding here. The best Elemental quote we could get from him was "less bits is more good". Left to his own devices he'd probably think about it in his spare time too, but for the sake of balance we have him go hiking once in a while.

Steve Goffena
Strategic Account Executive
Steve joins ETI after honing his entrepreneurial skills for the past year at AudioMojo, a wireless surround sound start-up, where he served as Sr. Director of Worldwide Sales. Prior to that Mr. Goffena developed his video sales experience at Pixelworks where he was Director of Sales and covered sales regions of Japan, USA, and Europe. During his nearly eight years at PW, Mr. Goffena penetrated and managed multi-million dollar accounts with some of the world’s top consumer electronics video accounts such as Sony, Epson, NEC, Hitachi, Sanyo, Sharp, and Panasonic. He holds a B.A. in Agronomy from Oregon State University and a Masters degree in International Business from Thunderbird. When he is not chasing leads or dragging a video demo kit around the planet, he’s kept busy with his family and his grass seed farm. "Sam, Jesse, and Brian were the top engineers that I worked with during my time at Pixelworks. I jumped at the opportunity to work with them again. Besides, they promised me that the demo kit would be under 200lbs this time."
