Field Engineer

The mission of this job is to provide superior post-sales support for our enterprise customers, while collaborating effectively as a trusted member of a driven, innovative team. This position is based in our Portland headquarters.

As a field engineer you will:
  • Act as the primary technical interface for post-sales on-site technical support at customer locations
  • Work closely with the Systems Engineering team to verify technical requirements and assist with customer installations
  • Assist customers with integration of our products into their workflows and environments
  • Resolve customer questions and issues, many times involving on-site involvement
  • Clearly understand and communicate customer issues to Technical Support and Product teams to improve products and minimize on-site support needs
  • Train customers and integrators on use of our products
  • As needed, provide post-sales customer support outside of standard business hours
The successful implementation of this position requires, at a minimum:
  • BS in computer science, electrical engineering, information technology, or other related field

IT Support Technician Intern

As our IT Support Technician Intern, your mission will be to provide workspace support for Elemental’s diverse staff and facilitate use of the technology that keeps the company humming.

As an IT Support Technician Intern, you will:
  • Assist staff with the installation, configuration and usability of computers, peripheral equipment, and software
  • Work with vendor contacts to resolve technical problems with desktop computing equipment and software
  • Troubleshoot the interconnectivity of desktop computers with diverse systems including networking, file servers and the phone system
  • Assess functional needs to make recommendations for purchases
  • Help maintain the organization of IT resources
  • Other duties as required
A successful candidate will have, at a minimum:
  • 2+ years experience supporting Windows PCs
  • 1+ years of customer service experience

Marketing Strategy Intern

The mission of this internship is to prepare graduate students for entry into the video processing industry by acquiring a thorough understanding of market requirements and developing and executing marketing strategies.

As a marketing strategy intern, you will work closely with the sales and marketing teams at Elemental on projects such as: creating and executing a rapid go-to-market strategy for a new region, creating a partner awareness campaign and tactical launch plan for a new product; or designing a partner program to raise awareness of Elemental in the video ecosystem.

The successful implementation of this position requires, at a minimum:
  • Enrolled in or completed an MBA in one of the following; entrepreneurship, marketing or finance

Quality Assurance Automation Engineer

The mission of this job is to help Elemental perfect the media experience by designing and implementing automated test infrastructure and methodologies that will produce superior quality software on fast-track scheduled releases. We are looking for a superstar customer-centric software engineer with a passion for quality whose goal is to create solid, reliable software that defines its genre. In this role, you will be working closely with the product marketing, development and customer support teams to create automated tests, scripts and procedures that efficiently and effectively test our products.

As a quality assurance automation engineer, you will:
  • Develop and document automated test strategies and scripts based on feature requirements and user stories
  • Identify and implement automated tests that will improve efficiency of testing
  • Maintain API level tests and tools that will efficiently test our products and core technology
The successful candidate will have, at a minimum:
  • A BS in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience.
  • 5 years of experience designing, implementing and maintaining suites of automated tests
  • 5 years of experience testing Linux-based products. (Centos/RedHat preferred)
  • Strong testing skills and knowledge of testing methodology
  • Strong coding skills in one or more object oriented languages (C++, Java , C#)

Senior Support Engineer

As a senior support engineer you will:
  • Act as Tier 2 technical contact for post-sales customer issues and own the resolution of escalated issues
  • Work closely with the Systems Engineering team to create documentation of customer implementations and ensure it is available to the Technical Support team
  • Collaborate with Development Engineering and Product Management on product improvements to minimize customer escalations
  • Provide regular status updates to management teams on escalated customer issues

  • Own the process of taking new technology through the entire development cycle - from inception, through QA, to delivery and approval by the customer

Technical Support Engineer

As a technical support engineer, you will:

  • Track and resolve customer questions and issues by phone and email
  • Work with the systems engineering and sales account teams to drive the success of customer evaluations
  • Identify and communicate feature requests to systems engineering and product management
  • Develop customer-facing documentation and videos for our customer portal
  • Collaborate with QA and technical marketing to replicate real-world workflows and run performance tests

Video Player Developer

The mission behind this contract position or internship is to help Elemental perfect the media experience by developing and completing one, two or three custom web video players on a fast-track schedule, and collaborate effectively as a trusted member of a driven, innovative team.

As a video player developer, you will develop and create up to three custom video players; Flash (using http://osmf.org), Silverlight (using http://smf.codeplex.com), and HTML5. If you feel you are a fit for only a certain part of this project (e.g. if your expertise lies with just one of these players), that is fine.

A successful project requires implementation of the following features:
  • Similarly skinned players, in terms of look and feel (Elemental will provide all graphic elements necessary for skinning the player) to http://bit.ly/A9uE4t
  • Players must be dynamic (supporting adaptive bitrate streaming), as well as able to support manual bitrate switching
  • A “Key Statistics” section similar to the current player
  • Players must have the ability to look up and report the current resolution of the playing video
  • Bitrate chart reader similar to how it is now
  • Players must have the ability to look up and report the network bandwidth
  • Ability to turn captions on and off
  • Ability for Elemental to set buffer length
  • Ad-insertion (button that can be clicked to insert a slate for X seconds)
  • Image insertion (have a switch that can be selected to overlay an image on the player)
  • DRM/encryption (not decided yet—more information to come)
  • Delivery of full source code of the players
  • An XML for Elemental to make easy updates to certain information in the players
The successful implementation of this position requires, at a minimum:
  • Expertise using actionscript (for the Flash player)

Video Processing Software Engineer

This position requires a software engineer who is creative, self-motivated and enjoys solving challenging problems. If you are an expert in video processing on parallel processors and possess an interest in developing extremely high-performance, professional applications, we want to talk to you.

As a video processing software engineer, you will:
  • Design, implement and test high-performance video compression and pixel processing algorithms
  • Understand and utilize the full processing power of top-end GPU and CPU hardware
  • Support the Elemental product development team in implementing customer requirements
The successful implementation of this position requires, at a minimum:
  • At least 2-3 years of professional work experience
  • Extensive parallel processing experience on GPUs or multi-core CPUs
  • Fluent in C/C++ in Windows or Linux development environments
  • Video codec development, particularly H.264 and MPEG2 and/or VC-1
  • Pixel processing algorithm experience, such as de-interlacing, noise reduction, etc.
  • Experience with CUDA, OpenCL and/or SSE is a plus
Video Test Engineer

The mission of this job is to define, implement and improve testing methodologies, infrastructure and processes. We seek a superstar tester whose goal is to create solid, reliable, customer-focused software that defines its genre.  In this role, you will work closely with development, test and program management to build procedures that efficiently and effectively test our flagship products, Elemental Live and Elemental Server.

As a video test engineer, you will:
  • Design and develop test plans, and perform repeatable testing procedures and processes
  • Work with customer support and development to identify and understand our external customers and integrate their “stories” into our test procedures 
  • Become the expert in your assigned testing areas and document that knowledge in effective test cases
The successful implementation of this position requires, at a minimum:
  • At least 2+ years of experience shipping commercial quality software with frequent release cycles
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and instill processes and practices for regular qualitative and quantitative measurements of audio and video streams
  • Experience testing video and audio software
  • Familiar with at least one major scripting language (Perl, Bash, Ruby, etc.)
  • Demonstrated understanding and skill for performance and reliability testing
  • Great communication skills and a history of solving complex technical problems
  • Knowledge of video compression software and modern codecs (H264, MPEG2)
  • Experience interpreting and modifying scripts, including bash files, REST and Perl scripts
Web Applications Engineer

  • Work closely with product marketing, customer support engineering and designers to give intuitive user interfaces to difficult features

  • Work closely with the entire team to complete release cycles
The successful implementation of this position requires, at a minimum:

  • 2+ years of professional software development experience

  • Deep understanding of MySQL, Postgres or MS SQL
