Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder
Sam brings extensive management experience and technical expertise to the Elemental team as chief executive officer. He has grown Elemental into the leading provider of multiscreen video processing solutions. Prior to co-founding Elemental in 2006, Sam designed integrated circuit products for Pixelworks. Before joining Pixelworks, Sam held engineering positions at Silicon Graphics and Intel Corporation. He earned an M.B.A. from University of Oregon, an M.S. in electrical engineering from University of California at Berkeley and a B.S. in electrical engineering from Brown University. Sam is an avid Ultimate Frisbee player and passionate about protecting Oregon’s environment and strengthening the state’s education system. He has been recognized by the Oregon League of Conservation Voters as a Volunteer of the Year, by 1000 Friends of Oregon as one of “35 Innovators Under 35" and by the Portland Business Journal as the most admired CEO in technology and one of forty outstanding leaders under forty. Sam is also the recipient of the Tom Holce Award for Individual Achievement from the Oregon Entrepreneurs Network and was named startup CEO of the year award by GeekWire. Sam and his wife Adriane are the proud parents of two boys who love soccer, animals and Little House on the Prairie books.
Chief Financial Officer
John brings more than two decades of experience serving high technology businesses and providing sound financial strategy to his role as chief financial officer at Elemental. Prior to joining Elemental, Ewert was Vice President of Finance for Palo Alto Networks, where he installed the financial management and reporting infrastructure required for its successful public offering and rapid growth as a public company. Previously, he held various leadership roles at Oracle Corporation and Sun Microsystems, both Fortune 500 companies, and PricewaterhouseCoopers, a Big Four public accounting firm. His diverse background includes time spent serving in the U.S. Army and earning an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley, with an emphasis in corporate finance and strategy. When he is not indoors focused on business partnering, John enjoys spending time in the great outdoors adventuring with his wife and four young daughters.
Chief Product Officer
Aslam brings more than 25 years of experience with large and mid-size companies to his role as chief product officer at Elemental. Over the course of his career, Aslam has lived and worked in India, Japan and the United States. Prior to joining Elemental, Aslam was chief technology and product officer at Ensequence, where he spent more than ten years working with service providers and content programmers formulating, developing and delivering interactive TV products, services and platforms. Prior to Ensequence, Aslam was at Intertrust Technologies as vice president of product marketing setting direction and requirements for new video DRM products. He also worked at Sequent prior to its acquisition by IBM in various product management and marketing roles in both Japan and the US. Aslam graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology with a degree in electronics and telecommunications engineering. When he’s not driving product strategy at Elemental, Aslam enjoys times with his wife and two daughters and aspires to be an accomplished cyclist.
Chief Architect and Co-founder
Brian has nearly two decades of experience with complex real-time software development, spanning the entire development cycle from requirements capture through deployment and support. He brings his obsession with video compression, image processing and real-time control systems to his work at Elemental. As director of software engineering at Pixelworks, Brian led development of a next-generation Software Development Kit (SDK) for Image Processor ICs. Prior to Pixelworks, he worked as an engineer and team leader at Rockwell Collins developing navigation, guidance and sensor control software for military transport aircraft. Brian earned a B.S. in aerospace engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona. Left to his own devices Brian would probably think about video compression in his spare time too, but for the sake of balance he goes hiking once in a while.
Senior Vice President Worldwide Sales
Dan brings more than 25 years of experience building and driving sales and service in the enterprise storage, media and broadcast markets to his role at Elemental. As senior vice president of worldwide sales, he develops and directs the company's worldwide sales and service strategy and is responsible for a global sales and service team. Prior to joining Elemental, Dan managed sales, marketing and service divisions at companies working directly with enterprise IT organizations in the broadcast, storage, and SAAS markets. In his most recent role as head of sales at Omneon Inc., Dan helped the company establish a global footprint and achieve profitability two years ahead of schedule. Prior to his work at Omneon, Dan held executive sales positions at MTI Corporation and Mylex Corporation. He also co-founded and served in an executive role at Storageway. He is on the board of directors of Multimek, Inc. and earned a B.S. in business administration and economics from San Jose State University. Dan is also an accomplished guitarist, a passion he continues to pursue in his free time.
Chief Technology Officer and Co-founder
Jesse brings a deep background in video systems and software to Elemental where he leads the software and applications developments teams. As a software applications engineer at Pixelworks, he played a critical role in bringing numerous complex customer designs into production. Jesse was a core architect for the clean-slate development of Pixelworks' next-generation System Development Kit (SDK), the real-time operating system that powers all Pixelworks ImageProcessor ICs. He managed and contributed to many successful products at Pixelworks, including the digital television SDK that drives all Pixelworks-based digital televisions today. Prior to Pixelworks, Jesse held software engineering positions at Qualcomm and Ericsson. He earned a B.S. in computer science from the University of Colorado, Boulder and has been recognized by the Portland Business Journal as one of forty outstanding leaders under forty. Jesse enjoys spending his free time exploring rivers and mountains and is at home in the elements.
Chief Marketing Officer
Keith possesses 20 years of business leadership experience in the video, IPTV and telecommunications industries. As chief marketing officer, Keith leads the development and implementation of Elemental’s worldwide marketing strategy and oversees the company’s marketing functions, ranging from product marketing to outbound communications. Prior to joining Elemental, Keith led the marketing team of IPTV pioneer Tut Systems (acquired by Motorola), the business development efforts of Viagate Technologies (acquired by Tut Systems), and most recently, a wellness product company as CEO. Earlier in his career, Keith managed a variety of growth businesses for AT&T and was a strategy consultant for wireline and wireless communications companies at PricewaterhouseCoopers. He currently serves on the board of directors of Coherence Resources. Keith earned a B.S. in engineering from Cornell University and an M.B.A. from New York University. Keith is an ironman "not-so-wanna-be" and chooses to train for less exhausting sprint triathlons in his free time when he is not coaching his kids' sports teams.
Vice President of Global Services
With 15 years of experience in service management and enterprise solutions design, Greg brings a passion and proven track record of managing teams that identify innovative solutions to deliver customer success. As vice president of global services, Greg oversees Elemental's Solutions, Support, Education, and Field Services teams. Prior to Elemental, he spent ten years at Hewlett-Packard, where his previous roles included technical leadership of teams supporting software development, solutions architecture, project management and IT service management. Greg graduated with a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Oregon State University and, as a native Oregonian, is proud to be working for an entrepreneurial media company in Portland. When not working around the clock to keep customers happy, he is usually found on a soccer field, skiing the slopes of Mount Hood, hiking the trails of the Columbia River Gorge or planning his next international adventure.
Vice President Sales – Asia
David heads up Elemental Asia Pacific, and as VP of Sales takes on the regional sales and support management for the company in Asia. Spending the last 13 years in the region, David has previously held senior positions in Asia Pacific with TANDBERG Television, where he was Sales & Marketing Director, and as Operations Director for NDS' Asia Pacific business.
David started in the TV industry in 1990, and brings broad market knowledge, strong sales skills and a set of critical relationships to help today's media and entertainment providers enable business growth and distribution diversity in the Asia Pacific region.
David began his career in the analog set-top box industry, serving the early European retail and distribution markets and was Marketing Director for NDS in Europe before relocating to Hong Kong.
Vice President Sales – Americas
Todd has been at the forefront of content distribution and monetization technologies for the service provider and media segments for more than 20 years. He was the sixth employee at Loudeye Corp (originally encoding.com), a company he ultimately helped take public as SVP of Sales in 2000. Todd next took on the challenge of chasing down National Geographic’s first digital-media licensing deals, where he secured distribution agreements with dozens of organizations including Google, AOL, EA, Microsoft, Apple and others. From there, he went on to fill the first sales/business development role at Maven Networks, which sold to Yahoo in 2005 and then joined ExtendMedia as SVP sales, which sold to Cisco Systems in 2010. Most recently, Todd held the position of Senior Sales Director of video software and encoding product for the Media and Service Provider market segment for Cisco.
Todd earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of the Pacific. He is an accomplished triathlete with three Ironman finishes, an avid historical non-fiction reader and novice drone pilot. Athletically, nowadays you will find Todd competing on the masters open-water swim racing circuit.
Vice President Sales – EMEA
John Nemeth brings more than 35 years of experience to his role as Vice President of Sales, EMEA. John manages Elemental’s European office and leads sales initiatives in the region that help content programmers, pay TV operators, broadcasters and enterprise customers deploy solutions for multiscreen video processing and delivery.
Prior to joining Elemental, John served as Sales Director at IBIS Limited, Director of Sales at Omneon (now owned by Harmonic), and Product Director at Solid State Logic. His distinguished track record of successful sales and marketing extends to several other leading audio and video equipment manufacturers that specialize in broadcast, post-production, music and film applications.
The Elemental office in the UK provides sales, marketing, and systems engineering service and support to a growing customer base in the EMEA region.
