Management Team

Samuel S. Blackman
Chairman and CEO

Samuel brings extensive management experience and video processing expertise to the ETI team. Prior to co-founding ETI in 2006, Samuel specified and architected next-generation products as an IC Design Manager for Pixelworks. He spent time in China organizing the company's Shanghai design center, and was responsible for a wide variety of functional blocks on six ImageProcessor ICs. Prior to joining Pixelworks in 2000, Samuel held engineering positions at Silicon Graphics and Intel Corporation. Mr. Blackman holds an M.S.E.E. from the University of California at Berkeley and a B.S.E.E. from Brown University in Providence, RI. He was the Oregon League of Conservation Voters Volunteer of the Year in 2005, and a Regional Qualifier for the non-partisan White House Fellows Program in 2006. Before Elemental and his new baby Abraham, Mr. Blackman used to enjoy playing Ultimate Frisbee and eating ice cream. Of his goals for the company, he states "We want to restore the lustre to the video cluster here in Portland."

Jesse J. Rosenzweig
CTO

Jesse brings a deep background in video systems and software to ETI. He joined Pixelworks as a Software Applications Engineer in 1999 and played a critical role in bringing numerous complex customer designs into production. He was a core architect for the clean-slate development of Pixelworks' next-generation System Development Kit (SDK), the real-time operating system that powers all Pixelworks ImageProcessor ICs. Jesse also managed and contributed to several other successful products at Pixelworks, including the digital television SDK that drives all Pixelworks-based digital televisions today. Previous to Pixelworks, Jesse held software engineering positions at Qualcomm and Ericsson. Mr. Rosenzweig holds a B.S.E.E. in Computer Science from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Mr Rosenzweig enjoys spending his free time exploring rivers and mountains and is at home in the elements.  “Say hasta luego to serial processing, it’s all about parallelism now!”

Brian G. Lewis
Chief Architect

Brian provides ETI with an abundance of software and project management know-how. He has 13 years of experience with complex real-time software development, spanning the entire development cycle from requirements capture through deployment and support. Areas of particular expertise are image processing, video compression and real-time control systems. Brian's previous roles include Director of Software Engineering at Pixelworks, where he led development of a next-generation Software Development Kit (SDK) for ImageProcessor ICs. Before this Brian worked as an engineer and team leader at Rockwell Collins developing navigation, guidance and sensor control software for military transport aircraft. Mr. Lewis earned a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona. Mr. Lewis is obsessed with video compression.  Really; we're not kidding here.  The best Elemental quote we could get from him was "less bits is more good".  Left to his own devices he'd probably think about it in his spare time too, but for the sake of balance we have him go hiking once in a while.

Damon Hess
Strategic Account Executive

Damon joins ETI after working for two years in Shanghai, where he served as Pixelworks' VP of Worldwide Sales. During his seven years at PW, Mr. Hess established and managed multi-million dollar accounts with consumer electronics integrators throughout SE Asia as well as with large computing OEMs in the US such as Dell and HP. Prior to PW, Mr. Hess spent nine years in sales and marketing at administrative software developer CollegeNET, where he also worked his way up into the position of Sales VP. He holds a B.A. in Chinese Studies from Whittier College and a M.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University. When he's not chasing down deals, he's kept busy chasing down his rowdy young sons Ethan and Miles. "As soon as I heard that Sam, Jesse, and Brian were going to collaborate on a product, I wanted to be a part of it. They are a very talented group that has a passion for quality. Great products make great salespeople, and I've always been in this for the glory."

Investors

Elemental Technologies' success has been made possible in part by support from several terrific Northwest angel investment groups. Providing much more than just financing, these investors have provided substantial guidance, helped with recruiting, and in general created a solid foundation for Elemental's growth.

The Oregon Angel Fund
The Oregon Angel Fund encourages veteran and new angel investors to "learn by doing," with the aim of increasing the number of active local angel investors and funded startups in Oregon and SW Washington.   OAF's one-year investment horizon is designed to encourage decision-making, diversification, and learning, as well as to further position PAN  as the most-active venue for funding startups in Oregon and SW Washington.

Alliance of Angels
The goal of the Alliance of Angels is to bring together high-growth early-stage entrepreneurs and sophisticated angel investors. For companies seeking funding, the Alliance of Angels provides valuable coaching as well as exposure to an otherwise difficult-to-reach and powerful network of experienced investors.

The Bend Venture Conference
The Bend Venture Conference provides an avenue for regional companies to gain direct exposure and feedback from an expert panel of seed and early stage venture investors. These investors are willing to share their insight into the key elements that lead to successful funding.
